THE
PROCESS
The Basic Rolfing® series consists of ten sessions. One to three sessions
are useful for injury relief or a trial period. Each Rolfing session builds
upon the results of the previous one, so that the results are cumulative.
Treatments usually last 75-90 minutes.
During the sessions the practitioner uses deep tissue manipulation on
the connective tissue of the patient's body until it becomes elastic and
pliable again. Rolf Movement is also incorporated during and at the end
of the sessions to enhance the client's experience and to help the body
to hold it's new found freedom and ease of movement. Rolfers also educate
clients in ways of using this new found freedom. Clients usually undress
to their underwear and lie down on a massage table. The Rolfer then applies
pressure with fingertips, hands, knuckles and elbows to work on the connective
tissue.
Rolfing was sometimes described as uncomfortable and you may find some
areas of your body are more sensitive than others, however it is not painful
and any slight discomfort normally preludes a wonderful sense of relief.
After sessions people report feeling lighter,
better balanced and they move
with greater ease.
